It's been an exciting month so far. Several of the exhibitions I have entered recently have accepted my work. I am honored to announce that I was accepted into the San Antonio Art League 83rd annual exhibition (click here for more info) and to top that off, I have received the President's Donor Award for my painting, Johnson City Farm...
This painting was done on location just outside the Lyndon Johnson National Historical Park near Johnson City, TX. It was a very hot, 103degree day as we sat under the shade of an oak to paint. I loved the light falling thru the tree and the distant open barn door!
The week prior to this event, I was in Dallas for the opening of the Outdoor Painters Society, Plein Air Southwest Salon exhibition at the Southwest Gallery. click here to see work from the show. On opening day, we had a Quick Draw event. These are timed (2 hours for this one) painting events in which artists compete, usually in a particular location, with spectators watching as we paint. This year, we painted at the Dallas Arboretum during the last day of the Dallas Blooms annual azalea and spring blooming spectacular! The place was alive with color. Finishing at noon, there was the mad dash to frame our wet paintings and zoom over to the gallery where the paintings were hung on a wall adjacent to the Salon show. How beautiful and fresh were all the paintings! What anticipation as all the artists arrived for the evening opening and reception!
The excitement built as red dots started appearing on the walls! As I turned around to direct a collector to my painting, OMG, there was a red dot on it! My quick draw painting from that morning had sold to a collector in Irving. YAY!!! Here is "Pathway to Color"...
The third wonderful thing in my life lately is that interest is growing in the classes and workshops I am teaching. I have 6 new classes starting soon, and several continuing ones, and I am scheduled for 5 new workshops in the next few months. One of my greatest joys is teaching and I am continually excited by the eager students and their work! Please visit my website http://www.marensphillipsartlines for more information on my classes, or email me at headlinesart@yahoo.com or call me at 210-945-8424 to sign up!
Happy Painting...
